Virtual Reality in Nursing Education


Effectiveness of a poverty simulation in Second Life®: changing nursing student attitudes toward poor people.
QUESTION: can a virtual poverty simulation in Second Life® improve nursing students empathy and compassion for people living in poverty?

METHODS: study participants participated in the virtual poverty simulation exercise and the control group engaged in a self-study module. A total of 51 baccalaureate nursing students were studied.

RESULTS: students assigned to the virtual poverty simulation did not show more compassion or empathy than those assigned to the self-study module.
